This report from the Executive Office of the President Council of Economic Advisors titled: “Preparing The Workers of Today for The Jobs of Tomorrow” provides a current analysis on workforce development. Here are some key highlights on the health care workforce:
“Health care practitioners and technicians, which include physicians, registered nurses, and other health professionals and technicians are expected to be in increasing demand.”
“Occupations that require only an associate’s degree or post-secondary vocational award are actually projected to grow slightly faster than occupations requiring a bachelor’s degree or more.”
“The secondary school goals and curriculum must be aligned with the goals and curricula of post-secondary school institutions. Programs such as Tech-Prep and 2+2 that either allow students to acquire college credit while still in high school (often technical) program during the last two years of high school and then continue through two years of community college can help to bridge the gap between secondary school and post-secondary education and training.”
